We produce future-focused research driven by a shared vision of a thriving planet for people and nature

Macquarie University has a strong history of involvement in environmental law. Established in 1983, the Centre for Environmental Law (CEL) builds on the research strength and expertise of its academic staff in the area of  biodiversity law and governance. We are committed to fostering dynamic relationships with industry, government, civil society and other Universities and we have built strong collaborative links with overseas research institutions.

Our mission is to drive transformative change through future-focused interdisciplinary legal research that provides cutting edge solutions to the global challenges of biodiversity loss and extinction risk.

Our members have unique expertise in the field of biodiversity law and governance. We collaborate with industry, government and civil society to develop tools and implement practices towards a thriving planet for people and nature.
